School Rebuilding Project
Zhecheng, Henan, China

Zhecheng is a poor rural area of China’s Henan province, which has been affected by the AIDS epidemic through poorly managed blood collection schemes. Many of the primary schools in the area have been closed, in great disrepair, and in desperate need of reconstruction.

Sowers Exchange is partnering with Julius Baer, a Swiss private bank, and a local Chinese NGO to completely rebuild a Primary School in an area where several schools have already been closed due to their unsafe nature. This rebuilding will not only provide the children with a safer learning environment, but also one that is conducive to effective learning, and within reasonable distance of their homes.

This significant community investment will provide 5 school buildings, including 10 classrooms and staff office facilities, impacting the lives of 300-400 children, their teachers, and families.

Our local NGO partner is involved in a variety of initiatives including work with individuals and communities that have been impacted by the AIDS crisis, home and school reconstruction, vocational education for middle-school leavers, and community development.
