Community Engagement Initiatives

Community Engagement Initiatives

In partnership with Social Purpose Organisations (SPO), Sowers Exchange can help groups from corporations or schools and even individuals get involved with community development initiatives in the following ways:

I.            Community Service – Groups can be involved in the community in a number of ways including building schools, homes or water filtration systems to provide basic infrastructure, home visits, mentoring programmes, fund raising. The groups will experience the difference they make first-hand. Whether for employees or students, this kind of involvement encourages team building and deepens understanding of different cultures and backgrounds. This level of awareness can lead to concrete action.

II.            Creative Learning – Sharing information plays an important part of educating young and mature minds, especially those who are seldom exposed to different people or cultures and more importantly the impoverished communities. For example, teams are welcome to help teach English or other academic or vocational skills. Other activities can relate to story-telling, music, sports, cultural exchange and arts and crafts.

III.            Pre- and Post-Trip Activities – Groups can pool donations-in-kind or raise funds before and after a trip. Participants may also compile post-trip summaries, photos and videos to illustrate how their involvement will encourage and mobilise others to get involved.
